Independent Rebuild Specialist serves mining, oil and gas, and industrial customers to get critical engines back to work with confidence.

Reliability That Keeps Critical Equipment Working

Message From the Founder

Chris Evans, President, Independent Rebuild Specialist

When I started Independent Rebuild Specialist in 1999, the goal was not to be the biggest general diesel shop. The goal was to build engines customers could trust in the field.

That focus shaped who we became. We narrowed our work to high-horsepower CAT platforms and built our company around remanufactured CAT 3500 and CAT C175 engines for ultra-class mining trucks, oil and gas applications, and industrial operations where downtime is expensive and premature failure is not acceptable.

Today, we control the rebuild process from our 40,000 sq. ft. facility, with teardown, inspection, machining, assembly, painting, documentation, and testing handled through one accountable system. We also maintain more than 140 CAT mining engine cores, operate field service trucks in mine environments, and provide 24/7 support for the engines we build.

That level of specialization matters. It helps us protect quality, reduce unnecessary handoffs, respond faster when customers need support, and deliver remanufactured CAT engines with the reliability critical operations depend on.

Frequently Asked Questions

We are not a general diesel repair shop or broad-line equipment rebuilder. We specialize in CAT 3500 and C175 engines and focus on providing a controlled rebuild process, direct accountability, detailed documentation, and practical support for customers who cannot afford premature failure.

Independent Rebuild Specialist specializes in remanufactured CAT 3500 and C175 engines for demanding mining, oil and gas, and industrial applications. That narrow focus allows us to concentrate our people, processes, tooling, and quality controls on the engines our customers rely on in uptime-critical operations.

Our rebuild process is built around specialization, controlled in-house work, genuine OEM parts, documentation, and performance verification before delivery. Performing the entire rebuild at our facility reduces handoffs, improves consistency, and provides clear accountability for the work performed.

Yes. We use genuine OEM parts rather than aftermarket components as part of our commitment to rebuild quality and long-term reliability. A remanufactured engine is only as dependable as the components used to build it, which is why we rely on proven OEM parts instead of lower-cost aftermarket alternatives.

We maintain a large inventory of cores and ready-to-ship rebuilt engines to give customers more options when availability matters. Current availability varies by engine model and arrangement, so customers should contact us to discuss their specific requirements and timeline.

Yes. Depending on the customer, location, and program, support can include installation assistance, commissioning, troubleshooting, maintenance support, and warranty-related service. Our goal is to provide a direct path to resolution if an issue occurs after delivery.

Contact our team with the engine model, arrangement or serial number if available, application, location, and desired timeline. That information helps us determine the most appropriate engine option, current availability, and next steps.
